Drop your channel list here or click
sdb.xml (Sony) or channel_list_….scm (Samsung) from the USB stick
How it works
- Export the channel list from the TV to a USB stick (FAT32).
- Load the file here and reorder channels by drag & drop or with the arrow buttons.
- Download, copy back to the stick (same file name), import on the TV.
Numbers are assigned consecutively from 1. Checksums are recalculated; otherwise the TV silently rejects the file.
Exporting on the TV
- Sony BRAVIA (sdb.xml)
- Settings → Digital Setup → Programme List Transfer → Export. Tested with the W6 series (FormatVer 1.1.0). If the channel scan ran with a cable operator profile, the TV enforces that order; re-scan with operator “Other”.
- Samsung (.scm)
- Menu → System (or Broadcasting) → Transfer channel list → Export to USB. Tested with the F series (2013). Cable is verified, terrestrial and satellite are untested. Channels hidden by the operator (usually pay TV) stay hidden but can be shown per channel.
Sort your TV channel list on a Mac or Linux
Sony’s Channel Editor for BRAVIA TVs often finds no channels or cannot save on current Macs. ChanSort, the most widely used channel list editor, is Windows-only. This tool reads the exported file right in your browser; you reorder by drag & drop or paste a list of channel names, and get the finished file back. It works on macOS, Linux, Windows and ChromeOS without installing anything.
Supported are Sony’s sdb.xml (programme list transfer, FormatVer 1.1.0, DVB-C and DVB-S) and Samsung’s channel_list_….scm of the F series (2013) with 320-byte records. Both formats’ checksums are recalculated, and the Sony file is written so the TV can read it sequentially. That is where hand edits fail: not only the numbers have to be right, the order of the entries in the file does too.
Frequently asked questions
The Sony Channel Editor for Mac finds no channels. Why?
A known problem of Sony’s tool on recent macOS versions. The exported sdb.xml is fine. Load it here, sort, and import the downloaded file on the TV.
After importing, the TV reorders the channels again. Why?
The channel scan ran with a cable operator profile. The TV enforces that order regardless of the file. Re-scan with operator “Other”; the profile becomes GENERIC and your order sticks. The tool warns when it sees an operator profile in the file.
Which Samsung TVs work?
Verified is the F series (2013, e.g. UE40F6400) on cable. Files from other series with a different record size are detected and rejected rather than damaged. Terrestrial and satellite use the same layout but are untested on a device.
Is there ChanSort for Mac?
No, ChanSort is a Windows program. This tool covers the most common case: change the order, show or hide channels, recalculate checksums. For favourite lists or exotic formats ChanSort on Windows remains the reference.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The file is read and written in your browser. No server ever sees it and nothing is stored.
